The
mid
1960’s
spawned
a
new
breed
of
race
cars
where
constructors
were
given
freedoms
to
build
sophisticated
cars
with
powerful
mechanicals
housed
under
production
based,
sedan
styled
bodywork.
CAMS
would
go
on
to
call
these
cars
Australian
Sports
Sedans.
In
the
day
there
was
huge
spectator
interest
in
these
fast
and
wild
cars.
For
competitors,
there
were
a
number
of
rich race series at various race circuits around Australia.
The
current
popularity
of
historic
motorsport
is
seeing
interest
in
Sports
Sedans
rise
to
the
point
where
competition
events
are
now
being
run
around
Australia
to bring these fantastic cars back out on the race track.
Historic Sports Sedans incorporate 3 groups. These encompass cars
with a CAMS Historic Group U logbook and “Invited” cars and take on
the following formats:
Group U (Priority 1 for entries)

Pre 1986 Invited (Priority 2 for Entry)

Grp U eligible but not yet log booked
•
Built to the specification that would have been eligible in the period.

(3J) but has a Pre 1986 body

Grp C & A Tribute cars, often log booked 3D

The “John McCormack Trophy” race series was established in 2017 by the Historic Racing Car
Club of Queensland. The series has now been expanded to take in four states.

It is not required that every entrant do all events.
Competition Format
The group is run as a Super Sprint with the start procedures and scoring methods detailed either the
Sporting Guidelines for the group or the Supplementary Regulations for the meeting in which they
are run.
